Cute Cannonball Critters

Teacher: Kay Lovingood
Email:
kaylov@comcast.net

Description of Project: Students will learn how to make "critters" out of cannonball gourds. In class, we'll make two basic critters -- a turtle and a ladybug. We should finish both. The detailed tutorial will include instructions on how to add feet or make the critter into a money bank. The teacher will provide "head" gourds for the critters (eggs, mini bottles, bananas, and mini dippers), alcohol inks/applicators, alcohol, sponges, permanent markers to be shared, dimensional paint, Quickwood, glue, sand paper, and sealer. Although we won't be making banks, the package will include a piggy bank plug; and the class will include a demo of the extra process.

Cost of Class: $40.00

Supplies: One cannonball gourd, clean but uncut. A saw or carver with a bit that will cut through a cannonball gourd -- very dense gourd. The teacher will have extra carbide pointed burs to share. A steel ball bit, or a basic wood burner -- either -- to mark sections on the turtle. Gloves, apron, small water bowl
