Flowering Dogwood....Donna McCarthy
This bowl represents the NC State Flower the "Flowering Dogwood". The prepared bowl is created by using wood-burning, carving and painting. The design is traced onto the gourd with transfer paper, then wood-burned using your skew and writing tip. The gourd skin is then removed with your carver and favorite burrs The filigree oval is completed with a ZipCutter Burr or Fili-Point Burr both from Welburn Farms, or you may prefer to paint the outline with gold metallic paint. Bring paint brushes and acrylic paints in white, greens, browns, yellow and metallic white and gloves. The backside of the gourd is completed with a single dogwood flower. To finish a spray with Kamar is applied then the final sealers are sprayed. Instructor will supply cleaned and ready to use gourds, pattern and transfer paper,tutorial,acrylic paints, alcohol inks, Kamar and sealer. Students need temperature controlled woodburner with skew and ball, a carver with favorite burr for removing skin, zip cutter or fili point burr ( can be purchased from Welburn Farms ). Option of painting band instead of carving.If interested in this class but you don't have the tools please contact Donna or Mountain Gourd Gathering and we have the option of renting them. Large Dragon.....Judi Fleming
In this class you will learn the basics of creating gourd sculpture to create this dramatic dragon. You will learn learn how to create the infrastructure and balance and to "see" the creature in gourds. Many tips and tricks for creating all types of animals besides dragons will be provided in this class as well. Participants will NOT be able to complete this project in the class as fully-finished dragons can take up to 40 hours. All supplies are included.

Mini Basket Ornaments.........Tina Handrop
In this class students will make miniature basket ornaments using mini gourds and caning. They will first color the gourd with alcohol inks; then using chair caning we will create a spiral knot wrapped around the center of the gourd. Then we will use waxed thread and chair cane to attach a handle on top of the gourd, then attach the rim. Students need to bring apron, towel, sharp scissors; Instructor will provide all other supplies for this project. Students should finish this in project class. Minimum of 5 students maximum of 12 Cost $45 |
Cannonball Gourd Night Light.......Susan Brooks
This class will feature a cannonball gourd that has been cleaned and cut to fit a night light fixture. Students will learn to transfer a design of their choice to the gourd, wooddburn the design on the gourd, use ink dyes to embellish the design with color, and then to add many holes to create the night light effect. The end result will be a beautiful gourd that is just as attractive in the day time as well as when it is used at night.
Materials supplied by the instructor for the class : cannonball gourd - cut, cleaned and ready to design; ink dyes; night light fixtures, cords, and light bulbs; and several design choices. Students need to bring a wood burner - preferably with a variable temperature control, a heat gun, and a micromotor tool with various sized drill bits. Aprons are very helpful while working with the ink dyes. BYO design if you have something special you want to use. Cost $45 |

Everything is provided for this class. It is a four hour class. If any student would like to purchase an easel, the Bob Ross paint brushes, or the Bob Ross oil paints. They will need to message me me ahead of time to bring new ones for them to take home at an additional cost. All the students need to bring are clothes, they don’t mind getting paint on. This is oil paint. All levels of experience are welcome. Cost $75 |
