Rainbow Gnomes with Powertex and Unicorn Spit

Description of Project: These little guys are sure to bring the color back into your gourding fun! Come and join me as we play with my new favorite thing, Unicorn Spit. Who does not love a garden gnome, rainbows, Powertex, and unicorns? We will build a simple structure out of cut gourd pieces, acrylic paints, faux fur, and a small amount of Powertex Stone Art clay. Then the real fun begins, making the rainbows! To add the finishing touch, we will learn how to create texture and color washes using the vibrant colors of Unicorn Spit dyes by combining them with Powertex textile hardener. This is a simple and fun project anyone can do. Size: Approximately 10 – 11 inches tall. Sizes will vary.

Cost of Class: $45.00

Supplies needed: Any color acrylic paint you desire for the body if you want a color other than purple. Disposable gloves. Large, medium, and small paint brushes. A heat gun for drying as needed. An apron or smock. Paper and pen for note taking as desired.

Perfectly Prickly Pet Cacti!

Description of Project:
Liven up your home with some new plants that are very easy to take care of - cactus! We'll be using your choice of gourd shape (bell, banana, wing, crown of thorns - etc!) and create one or two life-like prickly cacti. We'll color them, add the spines and fluff for that realistic look, and top them with flowers for a little color. Each gets it own terracotta pot too! We'll be using awls to create the pin holes and all materials are provided. You'll leave with one or two finished pet cacti. No experience necessary!

New way to wood burn

Description of Project: In this class you will be shown a new way to wood burn with out the smoke. The teacher will show you the new technique and then you will get a gourd and 2 round disks to practice on. You will be using paints and inks too to create unique finished pieces.

Sample Gourd of Basic Carving Techniques

Description of Project: Basic Carving techniques will be taught. A discussion of the different kind of burrs and carving tools will also be discussed. Techniques included will be taking skin off the gourd, sanding, carving hills, filigree, inlaying a cabochon, and stippling. Coloring the gourd will be discussed. Instructor will have extra carving burs and a few extra carvers for students to use and gourds.

Cost of Class: $45.00

Supplies: Apron, sandpaper, a mask, Rotary carver or dremel; carving burs- inverted cone, ball, wheel, filigree, structured tooth, and a sander.
